Recently, news has been circulating on social media that Sudanese teams have applied to play in the Rwandan league for the 2025/2026 season, initially two teams were considered, namely Al-Hilal Omdurman and Al Ahli SC Wad Madani.

After these teams, Al-Merrekh was added, these teams wrote to the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) requesting to play in the Rwandan league for the 2025/2026 season.

Information reaching Laverite.rw confirms that these teams have been approved to play in the Rwandan league and the revised league schedule including these teams has been prepared.

This information was also confirmed by the Head of Operations at the Rwanda Premier League, Bigirimana Augustin, who told RBA that they have already prepared how these teams will be included in the league and the revised schedule has been prepared, which is still pending approval.

Among the reasons these teams gave for requesting to play in the Rwanda Premier League is that there are insecurity issues in their country, which has led to the suspension of their league.

The Rwanda Premier League is usually played by 16 teams, meaning that if these teams are added, the number would increase to 19 teams, information reaching us indicates that these teams will continue where the league has left off.
