Rayon Sports, Kiyovu, AS Kigali and Bugesera are among the teams declared ineligible to play in the 2025/26 RPL.

In a statement issued by the Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) on Tuesday, some of the major clubs including Rayon Sports, Kiyovu Sports, AS Kigali and Bugesera FC were included in the list of clubs that failed to meet the requirements to be allowed to play in the Rwanda Premier League in the 2025/2026 season.

FERWAFA said that these clubs still have debt problems, complaints from players and other staff, and other issues related to the management and infrastructure of these clubs.

These clubs that do not meet the requirements must first be resolved before they are allowed to play in the RPL. It is their responsibility to resolve this before the deadline that will be announced soon,” according to a FERWAFA statement.

Rayon Sports, one of the most popular clubs in the country, continues to face financial and management problems, with former players and coaches complaining to FERWAFA, saying they have not received their dues.

Kiyovu Sports and AS Kigali also have similar issues with their former employees, while Bugesera FC has an issue with the implementation of documents showing financial debts.

FERWAFA has asked these clubs to resolve these issues as soon as possible, in order to protect the image of the competition and promote good governance in Rwandan football.

🛑What to think about:

Football fans are waiting to see if these clubs will be able to resolve all these issues before the start of the season, as failure to do so could result in their being disqualified from participating in the 2025/26 RPL.
