The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, stressed that the agreement to be signed on Friday, June 27, 2025, is a peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda.
On June 18, 2025, the United States of America released a joint statement between the Governments of the DRC and Rwanda stating that expert groups from both countries had approved a draft peace agreement. This statement also stated that on Friday, June 27, 2025, the Foreign Ministers of both countries would sign the peace agreement.
Some international media outlets have written and even said whatever they wanted about the agreement that is about to be signed. Based on what was written in these newspapers, Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe cleared up the confusion. He said that what was done on June 18 was that these experts had finalized the draft peace agreement, which will be signed on Friday, June 27, by the Foreign Ministers of both countries.
There was a debate on the internet and social media about what was going to be signed on Friday, with some not afraid to say that what was going to be signed was not an agreement.
Radio TV10 journalist Oswald Mutuyeyezu was one of the commentators on the debate that arose on social media, where he said that according to a recent document published by Amb. Nduhungirehe, what would be signed on Friday is a peace agreement.
In response, Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe said: “You are right Oswakim, on Friday, June 27, 2025, we will sign and ratify the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.”
Amb. Minister Nduhungirehe also took the opportunity to say that the document called the “Declaration of Principles” was signed in two months, where it was signed on April 25, 2025 in Washington DC, United States of America.
The United States recently issued a statement, stating that after the signing of the agreement, talks are expected to bring together the leaders of these countries with the aim of achieving lasting peace in the region.
