Based on the order of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda has arrested two senior military officers with the rank of Colonel, where they are accused of being infiltrators of the ADF.
The arrested soldiers are Colonel Peter Ahimbisibwe, the head of the military’s counter-terrorism unit, and Lieutenant Colonel Ephraim Byaruhanga, the head of the special operations unit, where they are being held at the Mbuya military prison in Kampala.
Maj Gen. Flex Kuyaligye, the Ugandan military spokesman, said the soldiers were charged with violating military discipline, and the soldiers were arrested on suspicion that the units they commanded may have been infiltrated by the ADF, a terrorist group fighting the Ugandan government, which is based in eastern DRC.
According to a security source, it is suspected that the units the detained soldiers were leading were infiltrated by the ADF, which led to the soldiers providing false information to the military leadership.
He said: “One of the crimes is that their units were infiltrated, misled, and provided false intelligence to the military leadership. This led to false actions, raising questions about the integrity of the UPDF security forces.”
