Joseph Kabila went to Bukavu, the DRC government accused him of serious crimes.

The politician who led the Democratic Republic of Congo from 2001 to 2019, Joseph Kabila Kabange, traveled to the city of Bukavu in South Kivu province where he continued the peace talks.

Joseph Kabila Kabange returned to the DRC in May 2025, where he had been in exile for a year and a half because he fled at the end of 2023. When he returned to the DRC, he was warmly welcomed by the leadership of the AFC/M23 coalition in Goma.

Upon his arrival in Goma, Kabila began what he called peace talks where he spoke with various sections of the Congolese, especially politicians, religious figures and civil society, listening to their ideas on how peace could be achieved in the DRC, especially in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

These talks by Joseph Kabila Kabange are based on 12 pillars that he claims will help this country achieve lasting peace. These pillars include the dismantling of armed groups and the end of dictatorship, reconciliation among Congolese, an end to war, and good relations between the DRC and neighboring countries.
