On Thursday, June 19, 2025, the Kigali High Court ordered that politician Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza, founder of the illegal political party DELFA-Umurinzi, be investigated for crimes related to a plot to overthrow the government.
The court made this decision after it was not satisfied with the explanations Victoire gave about her alleged role in a training course given to former members of her illegal political party DELFA-Umurinzi. The prosecution said that this training was related to overthrowing the government by mobilizing the population to oppose it.
Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza told the court that among the defendants in the case, except for Nsengimana Théoneste, founder of the Umubavu network, all others are members of the DALFA-Umurinzi party. She also denied that the training course they are accused of committing the crimes was not organized by DALFA-Umurinzi, adding that she was not aware of it.
On Thursday morning, the court heard the explanations given by Victoire. After examining the issues including whether the explanations she gave were incriminating or not, the court found that the explanations given by Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza were insufficient and found that the case file contained evidence against her. The court also found that it was necessary for the Prosecutor’s Office to conduct an in-depth investigation into Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza in order to bring her before the court.
The court requested that this investigation be conducted within two weeks after Victoire is brought before the court, with the hearing of the case expected to resume on July 7, 2025.
According to Wikipedia, Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza was born on October 3, 1968, which means she is 57 years old.
