The President of the Senate of Rwanda spoke about how the problems of the DRC will be resolved.

Yesterday, May 28, 2025, members of the Rwandan parliament discussed what can be done to restore security in the DRC. They discussed this with members of the African Union parliament during their visit to Rwanda.

Dr. Francois Xavier Kalinda commented on the insecurity in the DRC, saying: “Instead of focusing on solving the internal problems of its country, the Congolese government continues to accuse Rwanda of being involved in its problems, which Rwanda denies, saying that they should be resolved through political means and dialogue.”

He continued: “Rwanda is deeply concerned about the FDLR group, which was behind the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which is present in this country and is supported by the Congolese government. Even after that, this group continued to disrupt Rwanda’s security and destroy infrastructure, which is why it calls for this group to be dismantled and for the DRC government to turn a blind eye to it.”

The President of the French-speaking parliamentary group APF, Hilarion Etong, said that they arrived in Rwanda from the DRC to discuss with leaders on the issue of insecurity in the Democratic Republic of Congo and that they came to Rwanda to listen to both sides.

He said, “The insecurity issues in the Great Lakes Region have been going on for a long time, but the role of members of Parliament in finding a lasting solution is desired, because for more than 30 years, the Great Lakes Region has been marked by serious conflicts based on history, events that have had a serious impact on the people of the region, especially those living on the borders of Rwanda and the DRC.”

Hilarion Etong says that after discussing with both sides, he understood the roots and nature of the problems and how they can be resolved through political means and dialogue.

Dr. Kalinda also said that there is evidence of collaboration between the FDLR and the Congolese military (FARDC), which is reflected in the Congolese government’s unwillingness to dismantle this group.
